Foundation Programme - 11-05-2008, 11:05 AM

I've been receiving emails from quite a few people who seem to have visas to stay and work in the UK but have medical degrees from abroad, mainly China. I thought I would start this thread in the view of hopefully answering a few queries that were put forward to me.

The foundation programme consists of 2 years where by the GMC has set certain goals that we must achieve during these 2 years. I guess it is at par with the internship as F1 is a pre-registration job. It is important to do the foundation programme before applying for any speciality posts.

The best site to visit for any queries that you may have would be : The Foundation Programme - Non-UK graduates, and those who graduated before 31 July 2006
There are various pdf files on this page which include the eligibility criterias, processes to be undertaken.

For all those who are still adamant that they want to do some of their training in the UK, it seems there is a way. There are so many deanery that are still under subscribed and hence many foundation jobs are not filled. There are still doctors coming here, in fact one of them is from Manipal, and they seem to be coming here by showing they are highly skilled migrants. For more info on working here as a doctor through the Highlu Migrant Skilled Programme (HSMP): UK Border Agency | Highly skilled workers

from what i've known....IMG's can't take the training post in the UK hospital even if they passed the PLAB ..but it seems possible if they have indefinte leave to reamain in the UK(ILR)..but they give more priority to their own medical students... and about the foundation course if u've done one year internship u don't need to do F1.. U can directly apply for F2 tats the post for SHO..it seems difficult but definitely not impossible....

i have been following the BBC news regarding jobs for non eu doctors. recently also there was a piece of news that they are not employing any non eu doctors or pay them as GP! even i have heard about doctors fleeing NZ. still medics are registering & sitting for PLAB. i am very concerned what's there in future for others like me who are already in UK and in obvious dilemma..
god grace. cheers.

Well I'm currently doing F1 now. And as for completing your internship and then applying for F2, i guess that depends on the deanery. Some deaneries have a run through from F1 to F2, whereas for some deaneries, the F1 doctors have to reapply for F2. Also, as an F1 we have to so many forms to prove that we have the skills to progress to F2...I guess the best thing would be to go through the foundation programme site. I guess the only way of coming here now is to go through the HSMP site and see whether you are eligible to come to the UK.

I don't know much about the point system (if that exists) in order to sit the MRCP exam. As far as I know it has to be done prior to ST3.
