PhD in cancer research at German cancer research center - 10-01-2006, 04:17 PM

The Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) houses a biomedical PhD Program with 36 fellowships granted annually. This PhD Programprovides interdisciplinary training and research opportunities for University Graduates who wish to work towards a PhD in the field of Biology and Cancer Research. Most DKFZ PhD students graduated in Biology, Physics, Computer science, Pharmacy, Chemistry or Medicine.

Deadlines for Application:
January 15, June 1st, September 15.
Start of thesis work: About 4 months after the respective application deadline.

The typical duration of a PhD thesis at DKFZ is 3 years.
PhD students are appointed by special contracts for 3 years with an allowance according to "BAT IIa/2" (approximately 1100 Euro per month, net).Applicants must not be older than 30 years at the respective application deadline. A language test for English is requested (e.g. TOEFL: score minimum 240 computer, 600 written).

Medical students who aim to obtain a PhD degree can apply after completion of MD exams. Also in these cases faculties might ask for additional qualifications.

[I think MD here means regular medical degree of europe or states which is ~ Mbbs of non EU or UK . So anybody interested can inquire ]

He he, tyasto hoina. It is because of the german education system. Which is very different than what we know from nepal or other english countries.
Here school ends with 13th standard, the reason why we do not get admission in germany with our +2 or ISc. Under german university education system is not divided in bachelors and masters degree. That means depending on subjects there are different degrees like diplom for maths, physics; staatsexamen for medicine, biology, pharmacy and magister for languages, social sciences, et cetera. And these degrees are equivalent to masters degree of british-american system. So problem arises on recognition of diff education system and quality of diff country.

I think for nepal, the rule applies like that for india or pak.

We know most of nepalese prefer to go to english countries, however at the level of research english is spoken in every institutes. Most of the Intl students come from france, poland, other European countries, china, cameroon, brazil, Indonesia, etc.

I pesonally find it a bit pity that still most of nepalese students let them driven to expensive universities to study in english.

May be in future, after I have shown them nepalese potential, nepal will be in their list.
