Job opening for a Ph.D. Student, center for mol. biol, heidelberg - 07-01-2006, 04:30 AM

Job opening for a Ph.D. Student
At the Zentrum fuer Molekulare Biologie (ZMBH)
In the group of Dr. Matthias Seedorf (FG Prof. Dr. Bernhard
Dobberstein)
University of Heidelberg, Germany

The focus of our young research team is the trafficking of the yeast
plasma membrane protein, Ist2p, which is encoded by a localized mRNA.
Localization of IST2 mRNA to the bud suggests that Ist2 protein is
translated locally at specific ER domains. Trafficking of Ist2p to the
plasma membrane is independent of the classical secretory pathway
(Juschke et. al (2004) Curr Biol. 14, p 406) and the C-terminal domain
of Ist2p, when fused to other membrane proteins, functions as a
dominant plasma membrane sorting signal (Juschke et. al. (2005) JCB
169, p. 613). The future goals of our group are the dissection of the
individual transport steps of this novel pathway and the identification
of the responsible machineries. These goals will be achieved by
biochemical and genetic approaches using budding yeast and will be
extended to mammalian systems.
Highly motivated German and foreign students, holding a master degree
of science, with a background in cell and molecular biology or
genetics, are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. students will have the
opportunity to participate in the excellent graduate program at ZMBH.
Please send your application with a short description of your research
experience to:
