Specialization in Germany - 07-01-2008, 11:43 AM

There are frequent queries going on these days about Specialization in Germany, which I have been replying per mail. So I thought to put them all here so that the information is accessible to all at once.

u seem to have much information about medical studies in eu countries... i would be glad if u can tell me something about any possiblility to do post graduation in med. in some recognised affordable university.i want to start my pg this year as i graduated in 2005. it could be a research program alos if u know of any...please help ...thanks
Hi ktm,
I frequently receive emails regarding same query from Nepal these days.
There are some possibilities to do PG in EU, if you speak german, french or other european language. For research you must not speak local language, at least in Germany. However it is always better if you speak local language or "survival" language.
So first let me know whether you speak any european language and also let me know if you are already working.

regards
Rajiv

Hi Rup,
I would rather recommend you Germany, means to learn german than other, not only because, once you speak german you have more choices than anything else in europe. It is spoken by most of europeans and in 3 countries as official language, Austria and Switzerland beside Germany. So that you can try in these three countries.
I guess you have already gone through this page Rajiv Shah :::Heidelberg, Germany::: . If not please read from "License to practice medicine (Approbation) for Non-EU Nationalities" onwards.
Since the words residency or PG in Medicine are not popular here, you will hardly find any result in net search. This also means that you will not be taking a PG course, but rather you will be working in definite departments to get a particular specialization.

Please visit following link and read my (So4RaGb) reply at post number 9.

any student studying medicine in germany

This means you need a license to practise first. To get a license you must speak fluent german and your bachelor's degree must be acknowledged by the federal medical chamber.
If you want to work in a university Hospital, you must have done dissertation. Otherwise it is not much essential however preffered.

If you get the license and job, you will earn few thousands of euros á month. And you don't need to pay a penny. By the way tuition fee in germany is, for whatever subject , probably less than what people pay for +2 in Nepal.

If you live and work in KTM who can join Goethe Center for Language course.

greetings
Rajiv

thank you so much Rajiv for so helpful information..but can i ask you if you know of any university that take you for post graduate studies without having job or i mean without giving any licence exams and without the local language.. because i wan tto start anyhow this year and would like to be enrolled first and then slowly learn the language for surviving but somewhere u mentioned that the Pg courses are in english so was curious....
If you want to do anything else than clinical medicine (residency), like MSc in tropical disease or community health or hospital management et cetera, then of course you can do it without much problem. And yes they are in english mostly.

Re: Specialization in Germany - 07-01-2008, 12:23 PM

eg. only select following:

Discipline (grouped) : Health sciences, medicine
Abschlussart : Masters
Course Language : English

If you select Masters AND German , you will certainly find more choices. Most of the subjects may then be partly taught in english.

In this search you will not find residency possibilities, since that is not a course offered by a Uni, rather a job offered by Hospital.
