Kathmandu, July 19:
Health and Population Giriraj Mani Pokhrel today said that the government will soon take “strong action” against profit-driven private hospitals, nursing homes and research institutions.
“We love to see private sector contributing to the country’s health sector. But some institutions, rather than working as service centres, are found turning into ‘super profit-making’ institutions. The government will soon take action against them,” he said at the Reporters’ Club. He added that the ministry will do homework to bring such institutions within legal framework.
In addition, he promised to build at least three zonal hospitals — in Karnali, Rapti and Dhaulagiri zones this fiscal. “Though I failed to secure enough budget for the health sector, the funds allocated will be utilised to the maximum for the needy,” he said.
Further, he said that the government is considering providing indoor, OPD and emergency services for free. “It may take some time, but we are determined to guarantee fundamental rights of citizens,” he said.
Pokhrel had demanded that at least 10 per cent of the total budget be allocated for the health sector to facilitate the reconstruction of infrastructure, but the government allocated only 7.4 per cent of the total budget for the sector. | Article Tools

Politician wants to be in limelight, this issue may provide him that opportunity. | | | | | | Re: Fleecing hospitals to face govt action मन्त्रीज्यू,
पहिले आफ्नो government sector को hospitals र doctors and हाकिमहरु तह लाउनुस् । That will be more than enough.
Doesn't this jerk know that maybe the private institutions are turning into ‘super profit-making’ institutions but the government institutions have already turned into 'super corruption' institutes, where most of the budget allocated goes into the DHO's pocket.
Pity he failed to secure enough budget for the health sector. So sad Mr. Pokhrel, you could not get enough money for your loyal servants in the government service. I think 7.4 percent of the total budget is enough if you can manage them well and try to root out corruption in the ministry.
Only a month ago, YCL comrades had abducted a doctor who was accused of corruption of 65 lakhs from a single action (God knows how much he has looted so far). That 65 lakh certainly was from the government budget. Mr. Minister, was any action taken against that SOB ? Maybe he is one of your loyal servants. How could you do that, after all he scratches your back and you scratch his.

| | Re: Fleecing hospitals to face govt action Why should private hospitals not be profit driven if they can give quality service?
But, the ones we should be concerned about must be the Govt and semi-govt ones.
Can Xenomed try to find answer to what Hydatidcyst raised? There is so much corruption in govt sector and those are the ones causing all the problem. What did NMA or the govt do to the doctor who was handed-over by YCL? | | | | Article Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
