BANKE, Oct 29 - At least 12 persons died and hundreds others have became ill over last one week due to an unidentified disease that has spread in Gangapur and Fatepur, the flood affected areas of Banke district.
The symptoms of the disease suspected as malaria include sudden high fever, shivering and passing out.
According to the District Public Health Office, a team of health workers has been dispatched in the affected area to identify the disease and render necessary treatment.
The disease has so far caused three deaths each at Ward number 2 and 8 and 1 in Ward number 7 of Gangapur Village Development Committee while a total of five persons died in Fattepur Piprawaha and Jhagadiya.
Meanwhile, Gangapur Sub-Health Post states that more than 150 persons have been affected by the disease in the area.
The people of the region could not afford to pay for the treatment due to widespread poverty prevalent in the region.
