| Bir Hospital docs call off strike -

KATHMANDU, May 11: Resident doctors at Bir Hospital called off their strike from Friday after the newly elected members of the National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS) assured them that their demands would be seriously considered.
More than 150 doctors had stopped all works, except emergency services, for six days demanding that there should be adequate number of anesthetists and for hiring sufficient staff and equipment to provide quality service.
Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Arjun Bahadur Karki said that the senior positions at NAMS that had remained vacant since 10 months were filled Thursday.
The Minister of Health and Population Giri Raj Pokharel appointed four member's team of NAMS where Prof. Dr. Bhrama Dev Jha has been appointed as dean of the NAMS for a four-year term. The first meeting of the NAMS Senate will sit on June 4.
Those appointed members are Prof. Dr. Bijay Kumar Sharma as Rector, Dr. Shree Krishna Giri as registrar and Dr. Madhav Dahal as member of the executive council.
Filling those positions were one of the demands of the resident doctors, according to MoHP. The appointments in the senior positions will open doors for the hiring of other staffs required and to fulfill their other demands. Registrar Dr. Shree Krishna Giri said that the doctors |
