Dengue experts to visit health facilities - 13-10-2006, 11:50 AM

KATHMANDU, Oct 12 - A team of public health officials that reached Nepalgunj on Thursday is to investigate several health institutions in Biratnagar, Birgunj, Nepalgunj and Chitwan.

Talking to the Post, Dr. G. D. Thakur, chief of disease control at the Department of Health said they have been informed in the district that a few suspected cases of dengue have already been sent to Delhi, and there are no more such cases at present. "But we will visit health institutions on our own with our investigation team so that we can come up with the facts and assure people," Dr.Thakur said.

He said that they are fully equipped for the tests as they have already received kits from the World Health Organization. "We are getting additional kits for 1,000 test samples, which will arrive Friday from Delhi," he added.

After clinical assessment of the samples these would be re-tested at the National Public Health Laboratory. "We will also send to an international lab for further verification if needed," he said.

He said that the present team is just an emergency one and additional teams would be sent to the districts by Sunday, to also work on vector management (mosquito control).
