Diarrhea kills 4, over 40 bed-ridden

MYAGDI, Oct 12 - At least four persons have died while over 40 others have fallen sick in an outbreak of diarrhea in Takam VDC of Myagdi district over the past few weeks.

According to locals, the disease became rampant in wards no.1 and 2, mostly inhibited by dalit people, after they ate the meat of a sick buffalo.

The village lies some 30 kilometers west of district headquarters.

Among the dead are a 50-year-old woman, Khyaute Damai, Kale B K, 18, Parbati B K who was in her twenties, and her 18-month-old son. The identities of others who fell ill could not be established.

"After we had the meat during Dashain, everyone in the village fell ill," said the husband of the deceased Damai. He also said that almost the entire population in the two wards has been bed-ridden for the same reason.

A government medical team has set out for the village with necessary medicines.
