HIV/AIDS killed a member of a family of four in a remote village in Syangja district this year. HIV/AIDS and Sexual Disease Control Programme launched to study cases of HIV/AIDS found that four members of the family were suffering from HIV/AIDS, programme officer Pawan Poudel said. The programme was launched through the Red Cross in the financial and technical assistance of the UNDP.
Dal Bahadur Rana (name changed) who had gone to Mumbai in search of a job was infected by HIV/AIDS due to unsafe sexual intercourse. Rana’s blood test showed that he was suffering from HIV/AIDS. In course of time, his wife Sushila (name changed) and the children born to them were also infected with the disease.
Due to lack of treatment and proper care, Sushila died this year. The health of Dal Bahadur,37, is poor now, the AIDS and Sexual Disease Consultation Centre of the Red Cross said. Dal Bahadur’s eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son are HIV/AIDS carriers.
Blood samples of 32 persons were tested and six persons were found to be suffering from the deadly disease, the district-based information centre said.
