Three succumb to diarrhoea in Siraha - 04-09-2006, 08:38 PM

Three persons died of diarrhoea in Ward No 9 of Lagadi Gadhiyani VDC in Siraha. Makun Mandal (40) and his five-year-old daughter Pinki Kumari died of diarrhoea today, while five-year-old Anju Kumari, daughter of Jeevan Sadaya died last night, said Ram Udgar Mahato of the Nepal Red Cross (Siraha) who made a field visit to the spot.

Sources said 50 persons are suffering from diarrhoea since yesterday. Three persons whose condition is critical are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

A team of Red Cross and journalists visited the area today. Red Cross distributed Jeevan Jal in the diarrhoea-affected area. The journalists told the district health office about the spread of the disease. A team from the district public health office will go to the affected area tomorrow, according to Mahato.

Meanwhile, a report from Nepalgunj quoted forest users and Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke, Tilak Ram Sharma, as saying that over 25 persons were hurt in a clash between displaced flood victims and ‘forest users’ at the Hajarat community forest of Hirminiya today. Five flood victims have been taken captive.

The clash erupted when the flood victims from Holiya and Bethani VDCs reached the forest to look for shelter. The users said they opened fire on the flood victims as the latter began felling trees.
