HIV status in Nepal till 2005: Total Adult=70000, Adult Prevalence (15-49)=0.55%, Number of Women (15-49) LWHA=15,310 (22%), HIV Prevalence rate in IDUs=32.7%, HIV prevalence rate in sex worker=3.8%, HIV prevalence rate in client of SW=2.1%. The latest U.N. report shows that 65 million people have been infected with HIV since it was first identified 25 years ago. Twenty five million people have died of AIDS.

Unknown disease claims 4, 5 hospitalized - 18-04-2007, 10:50 PM

HETAUDA, April 18 - At least four persons died due to a mysterious disease in the last two days at Bhirkot of Chhatiaun VDC-4 of Makawanpur. Five others have been admitted to Hetauda Hospital for treatment.
According to locals, the dead are Bhim Bahadur Rai, Dhan Bahadur Rai, Kanchhimaya Rai and Ambika Rai.

The patients suffered acute stomach and chest pain followed by vomiting of blood, locals said.

3 die in road accidents

According to reports at least three people died in different road accidents on Wednesday.

In Syangja district, Janak Lamsal and Jeevkant Lamsal from Rapakot VDC -3, died and eight other passengers were injured when a jeep slipped from the road. According to police, they died while undergoing treatment at Syangja hospital.

Likewise in Tanahu district, one local boy Sudip Nepali, 8, died on the spot when a microbus en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara hit him near Ghasi Kuwa, according to police.

Following the accident, irate locals blocked the Prithivi Highway for five hours demanding compensation for the victim's family.- The Kathmandu Post
