Shortage of anti-venom in Morang district has forced people with snakebite to rush to other districts for treatment.
Two persons — Deepak Rajbanshi of Sijuwa, Morang and Ravin Kumar Das of Takuwa-4, Morang — died in the district due to lack of timely treatment for snakebite, the District Public Health Office (DPHO), Morang, said.
The DPHO had written a letter to the Supply Management Division of the Health Service Department to supply the anti-venom to the district some 15 days ago but “we have not received it as of yet,” said Nawaraj Subba, the chief of the DPHO.
People with snakebite either rush to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan or to Siliguri in India for treatment due to the lack of medicine in the district.
While the DPHO had demanded 500 vials of anti-venom, the Supply Management Division of the Health Service Department has dispatched only 50 vials.
