| 400 health posts lack manpower -

KATHMANDU, Apr. 6: There was need for seriousness in implementing the government's health policies if people in the rural areas are to have access to health services, said speakers at a programme to mark the World Health Day on Friday.
They said that more than 400 VDC health posts do not have doctors and people there are facing risk of untimely death.
Coordinator of Russian Center of Science and Culture, Ludmila Shakhova said that every nation has the responsibility of providing health services to its citizens, saying the WHO convention has close relations between international security, heath and medical sciences.
She said that health should not be limited to treatment only or it is a problem to be solved by the doctors. She added Nepal had been facing a lot of health related problem mostly in the rural areas.
"We hope the government, people at the community level, professional, religious people should come together by utilising the experience of WHO and they will be able to constitute and implement programme aiming at bettering the health of Nepalese people, " she said.
President of National Federation of NGOs for MDGs and Promotion, Dambar Bir Thapa said the government should reach health facilities to all rural areas by providing subsidy to establish hospital and nursing homes.
He said that if the country could utilise the available resources in a right way it could attract people from outside for medical treatment generating employment opportunities in the country.
Dr Hari Dhoj Pant said many people in urban areas are suffering from diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problem due to unhealthy living while people in rural areas are facing problem of malnutrition.
