BY CHETAN ADHIKARI - The Kathmandu Post
RUCHANG, NAWALPARASI, July 20 - The women of Ruchang village, very much aware about HIV/AIDS, nowadays instead of welcoming their husbands (returning from jobs abroad) with warm hugs, send them straight to hospital for a blood test.
Ignorant about HIV/ AIDS till some years back, women of this remote village are now aware of the consequences, thanks to the
awareness campaign of the local Matribhumi Mother's Group.
"A blood test is mandatory for every man who returns after foreign employment," said secretary of the group Jasmati Thapa. According to her, the group prohibits couples their conjugal rights until the husband undergoes the test.
Complying with the rules, the men also go to Bardaghat or Kawasoti after a day's walk for the purpose.
"A day after my arrival, I went to Kawasoti for a blood test," said a youth of Aamdanda, returned from the gulf a week ago.
Local women also distribute condoms to almost every household. Over 200 men from the village have gone to India and the gulf countries for employment. | Article Tools | | |

| | Re: Wives for HIV test for foreign-returned hubbies about time they did that...good way of shaming the cheating men too. I guess they don't realise the consequences of unprotected sex and as a result, not only are they infecting themselves but their wives too. Infact according to the latest UN figures, more housewives in nepal have aids than sex workers-now isn't that due to cheating husbands??!! | | |
