Kala-azar claims one, dozens sick

BIRTAMOD, March 15 - Robin Hemaram of Anarmani VDC in Jhapa district died of Kalazar this week and dozens of others are bedridden because of the disease.
The incidence of Kalazar is considered to be the highest since the last five years in the district. Kalazar victims range from two-year-old children to elderly people, who are undergoing treatment at local health posts. It is believed that the disease has spread in the slums of landless squatters after it was transmitted from Maila Tudu, who had returned to the village from India, to other locals.

According to health post in-charge Brajesh Mehata, some 21 locals had been diagnosed with kalazar in the last two months. "The condition of some of them is very serious as they did not take medicine regularly," said Mehata.

स्वास्थ्यचौकी इन्चार्ज व्रजेश मेहताले माघ र फागुनको दर्ुइ महिनामा मात्र एकै वडामा कालाजारका २१ बिरामी फेला परेका र त्यसमध्ये केहीको अवस्था अझै गम्भीर रहेको बताए । 'उपचारमा नआउने र बीचमा औषधि खान छाड्ने कारणले केहीको अवस्था गम्भीर छ,' उनले भने- 'हामी सकेसम्म बिरामी पत्ता लगाई उपचारको प्रयास गरिरहेका छौं ।'

जिल्लाको जुरोपानी, महाभारा, शनिश्चरेलगायत गाविसमा पनि यस वर्षफाट्टफुट्ट कालाजार देखिए पनि बढी संख्यामा रोगको प्रकोप अनारमनीमा छ । जनस्वास्थ्यले रोग नियन्त्रणनिम्ति कीटनाशक औषधि र्छकने, सडकनाटक र अन्तक्रिर्याजस्ता चेतनामूलक कार्यक्रम सञ्चालन गरेको जनाए पनि रोगले मृत्युको घटना भएको जानकारी भने उक्त संस्थास“ग छैन ।

its amazing that- even after knowing everything about kalazar, its epidemiology, its nature of spread, its treatment- we are being helpless and defenseless against such disease which can easily be curbed....

This is the story line and it is very usual.
US Scholar in Epidemiology is in the Ministry of Health to formulate health related plan and policy of the country. It's fact that individual effort is no use in this matter and bitter reality Nepali Leaders never come to the consensus and work in unison for better things!!!
