Meanwhile Dr. Sudha Sharma, President Nepal Nepal Medical association reported this incindence to the Home Minister and demanded for the immediate protection of the health workers and to investigate to find the culprit.

According to the Butwal resident, along with the police, Nepalese Army has been deployed in the incidence site. There were thousands of people involved in the physical assaul to Dr. S. K. Giri [Orthopedic Surgeon] and vandalism in the hospital permises - they said.

Dr. Giri has been seriously been injured and kept in the ICU in close observation.

This is not a new incidence specially in our Nepal, it gets the front page in the News Papers, people talk for a while and then they forget the pain an affected indivual has gone through.

This is high time for Government of Nepal to bring out some mandate to limit this type of mishap in the hospital permises & to the health professional on duty.

Physical assault to an on duty in the hospital permises should be taken as a serious crime. Government should find out the culprits and bring them behind the bars to set a lession to prevent future mishap.

We condemned this type of mishap and demand for immediate investigation to bring the cluprits to the justice.

May the soul of the untimely demised rest in heaven.

We wish the speedy recover of Dr. S. K. Giri.

Nepal In South Asia- A Bad Trend Engulfs Nepal

Recent rise in "mob" rules has set a different way to get things people want. Talk about the manhandling of a doctor in southern Nepal or vandalizing of a nursing home in Kathmandu, both present a bad attitude of people which might consequently affect our country. Are we up for a mob rule? While it is a good idea to have well-informed and critical society to run the country smoothly, these mob attacks do not help us. Are we heading for a complete chaos in the country?

One way or the other, we are the one who is losing this battle. A bunch of "brainless" people attacked a doctor alleging him for poor service to one of the patients who lost his life later on. And now the hospital reciprocated by shutting down all other services except emergency. Himalayan Times writes:

The Lumbini Zonal Hospital and other dozen health facilities of Butwal were closed today following an attack on a hospital doctor and vandalizing of the hospital and other nursing homes yesterday. According to Lumbini Zonal Hospital Superintendent, Dr Kedar Nath Sharma, all hospital services, except the emergency ward, have been closed indefinitely following after mob attack. The hospital management has demanded action against the miscreants.

Did we gain? Who won the battle? At the end, it is us, who have to suffer. We need to teach these people about co-existence and mutual respect. This is not the end of the story. Kantipur writes:

An angry group of people vandalized Everest Nursing Home, at New Baneswor in the capital Wednesday morning alleging the doctors for the death of a patient. Tulashi Ram Gautam 69, a critical asthma patient of Hetunda died at 5 am in the hospital due to the negligence of the hospital and doctors.

While we should make the authorities pay for their negligence, destruction of property does not help us. We, the Nepalese, should learn to get away from barbaric methods of conduct. Agreed, the nursing home made a mistake, but we should make them realize in a peaceful manner. Day by day, Nepalese are prooving to be more chaotic and difficult to control. This "mob rule" is not a good trend if we want a peaceful and a prosperous Nepal.

Hospitals shut

RUPANDEHI: The Lumbini Zonal Hospital downed shutters for an indefinite period on Wednesday as a mark of protest against Tuesday’s incident when a doctor was beaten up by an irate mob, the hospital superintendent, Dr Kedar Nath Sharma, said. The hospital administration has demanded a peaceful and secure environment in the hospital. The mob, blaming orthopaedist Dr Shree Krishna Giri for the death of a man injured in an accident, roughed him up on Tuesday. Dr Giri, who was seriously injured in the incident, was taken to Kathmandu for treatment. Stating that the emergency ward will remain open till Thursday morning, Dr Sharma told this daily that the administration will halt all services if their demand is not met.

Lumbini Nursing Home, Butwal Hospital Private Limited and all private clinics in Butwal also remained closed on Wednesday in protest against the incident.

The Rupandehi chief of the Maoists, Nirmal, denied rebel involvement in the incident. — HNS
