Dhangadhi, June 23: Four children who were expelled from a village on suspicion of being infected with HIV were brought to Dhangadhi with the help of Nawakiran Plus, an NGO working for the welfare of HIV/AIDS infected people.
The four children underwent blood tests at the Seti zonal hospital yesterday and two of them were diagnosed as HIV positive, said Dr Arun Thapa.
"Head of the HIV/AIDS Federation in far-west Shiva Giri and Nawakiran Plus brought them to Dhangadhi for treatment on Friday. One of the two infected was critically ill and has been admitted to the Seti zonal hospital," Dr Thapa said.
"The two HIV-infected kids will be provided with anti-retroviral therapy after receiving their CD4 report by Wednesday," Dr Thapa added. The four children were thrown out from their home by their relatives after their parents died of AIDS in 2006 and had to abandon the village after the villagers boycotted them.
Laxmi BK, 15, Suni BK, 13, Tej BK, 11, and Karishma BK, 6, of Belapur VDC-8 in Dadeldhura were turned out a year ago by their grandfather Jauhari Lohar for being infected with HIV/AIDS. They abandoned the village and lived with their maternal uncle Krishna BK. "I brought them home after they were driven away from their village," Krishna said. Source:
