Govt not bothered about woes, says NMA

The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has accused the government of showing indifferent towards the security and all-round development of medical professionals.

Six months ago, the government and the NMA had reached an agreement to make the Health Professionals Protection Act, increase the strength of medical professionals in regional hospitals, health posts and sub health posts, appoint doctor or medical professional health secretary. The agreement had called for consultations between the government and medical professionals before drafting policies related to health.

Six months have passed since the agreement was reached, but the government has not implemented it, the NMA said at a press conference, adding that this shows the lack of concern on the part of the government towards the welfare of medical professions. Health workers are working without any incentives, said NMA president Chop Lal Bhusal. Bhusal appealed to the government to implement the agreement at the earliest. - Source
