Paraneoplastic syndromes(PNS) are a group of syndromes that occur in advanced cancers that cannot be readily explained by either their local or distant spread or of hormone elaboration from their primary tumour of origin.
A mnemonic to remember some endocrine PNS is:
"Its rather CHIC for tumours to elaborate paraneoplastic syndromes."
C - Cushing's syndrome (esp.lung tumours- small cell carcinoma)
H - Hypercalcemia (esp.lung tumours - squamous cell carcinoma)
I - Inappropriate ADH secretion
C - Carcinoid syndrome
