hey anuj,
thank for being so inquisitive,
d-cold is banned because of its side effects
Quote:
d cold
PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE:cold and cough.
Reason for ban : stroke, may trigger/aggravate psychosis, and have adverse effects on autonomic nerve function in some individuals. There may be a deleterious interaction with caffeine so heavy coffee/cola drinkers could be at increased risk.
Brand name : D'cold, Vicks Action-500

hi anuj,
First thing the older generation antihistaminics like D-COLD is not just banned in manipal but it is banned in Nepal as a whole. It was banned around 5 months ago.
There is a Dr.(Phd) called Pravin Mishra in Manipal who is very very active and research oriented.Though he cannot ban any medicine since he doesnt have the authority he publicises latest reports about medicines and his own research findings. All he did was he (being the head of clinical pharmacology of manipal hospital) said he was no more going to use those oldergeneration antihistaminics in his hospital and the government also took notice and banned the medicine which should have been done years ago.I cannot think of anyother country still using those obsolete medicines.Even India has banned it years ago but as in nepal their problem lies in implementaion.
Love Nepal
