| Leprosy - a challenge -

As far as I know, medicine has never discovered exactly how leprosy is transmitted from one person to another. Neither do we know exactly what it is in a persons immune system which dictates whether or not that person is in danger from infection by m. leprae. We can cure leprosy but we still are too slow in discovering who needs the cure owing to the prolonged period the micobacterium can lie dormant; and to complicate things further, we don't know what awakens the dorment germ to enable a patient who hasn't been exposed to the germ for many years to present with classic symptoms of leprosy.
Are there views out there which could aid my understanding?
