what do u guys think about osteopathic medicine, its getting very popular in United states. Jus wanted to hear people's thought on it

Osteopathic Med - the holistic approach to medicine.
its a relatively new medical field, maybe a 100 or so years old. however most folks in the states choose to go to DO (doctor of osteopathic) schools only after getting rejection from the traditional allopathic schools. However the trend might be changing since the last time i was back in the states. anyways getting admission into DO school isnt as hard compared to MD. but they will be limited on the choices of specialties during residency. However the relative distinction between these two fields maynot be so obvious to folks outside of america.

Osteopathic medicine like chiropractic is almost unheard of for us but is practiced here in US and also in Europe.But their scope is narrow,practice limited and field of specialization is very very limited.And ofcourse they are not emerging but perishing fields of medicine.They have been outpaced and outdone by the pace of allopathic medical research and development.But both of these fields are still good in managing MUSCULOSKELETAL problems.Osteopathy in UK is actually limited to that,but in US their field is more diverse.
The following are the osteopathic principles,if u read them you wont find anything new nor will you be able to agree with some of them.


Osteopathic Principles

These are the eight major principles of osteopathy and are widely accepted throughout the osteopathic community. They are taken from the curriculum of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

(1) The body is a unit.

(2) Structure and function are reciprocally inter-related.

(3) The body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms.

(4) The body has the inherent capacity to defend and repair itself.

(5) When the normal adaptability is disrupted, or when environmental changes overcome the body’s capacity for self maintenance, disease may ensue.

(6) The movement of body fluids is essential to the maintenance of health.

(7) The nerves play a crucial part in controlling the fluids of the body.

(8) There are somatic components to disease that are not only manifestations of disease, but also are factors that contribute to maintenance of the disease state.
