HIV status in Nepal till 2005: Total Adult=70000, Adult Prevalence (15-49)=0.55%, Number of Women (15-49) LWHA=15,310 (22%), HIV Prevalence rate in IDUs=32.7%, HIV prevalence rate in sex worker=3.8%, HIV prevalence rate in client of SW=2.1%. The latest U.N. report shows that 65 million people have been infected with HIV since it was first identified 25 years ago. Twenty five million people have died of AIDS.

Cause of palpable P2 - 30-01-2007, 08:35 AM
Can anyone tell me cause for palpable P2 and the conditions when P2 can be palpated.
Are the conditions same as those for single P2 component during auscultation?

Pumonary Hypertnsion is the main cause of palpable P2.

Any conditions that leads to PHTN will give palpable P2 for e.g. Recurrent Pulmonary thromboembolism, Mitral stensos etc.

Any condition that causes Pulmonary Hypertension lead to palpable P2.

better heart 4 better nepal

It is the second component of splitted second heart sound.

hehe , Yes it is the second component of S2. I was confused by the term 'single' P2. P2 is always single
As some has stated above--Palpable P2 is a feature of pulmonary hypertension. P2 may be palpable in other condition such as decrease in AP chest dimensions (loss of thoracic kyphosis) coz this condition places pulmonary trunk closer to the chest wall.
