in my college here in -china- OPHTHALMOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, ENT etc are optional subjects; well everyone takes these classes but since exams&marks are not required for one to graduate in -mbbs- so some don't bother about exams.
here what i wanto know is that in -nepal- for me to apply for internship or to take -NMLE- later on, do i need these subjects in my mark sheet, if i don't have these subjects in my mark sheet will i face trouble in one way or the other..

Dear Studying Medicine

Yh, you need to study all this. Becasue Minor subject comprises
  • Ophtalmology (Eye)
  • Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)
  • Forensic Medicine
  • Community Medicine
And Psychiatry comes under Internal Medicine. I still remeber when I was doing post mortem during my Forensic Medicine posting some of the doctors from China were with us (I think one of them is Dr. Chandani Vaidya).

They didn't do their post mortem as they didn't have Forensic Medicine posting at their university, they had to repeat here even if they were doctor. After completing the Forensic Medicine posting they would be given NMC certificate they said.

As far as I know unless and untill you do it you will not be eligible to start your internship or the NMLE exam. Although I talked to the NMC staff they are also not sure about it as registerar is not in the office because of you know the politicla turmoil in our country. I will talk to the registerar once and update the info if NMC has changed the rule.

By the way I insist you to study Psychiatry becasue more and more people are getting depressed, anxiety, panic disorder, conversion disorder and so many psychiatric illnesses are getting top of the human illness these days.

And also let me take this opportunity to tell all the medical student that when a patient comes to you with fractured leg you can't say - I didn't study orthopedic or I didn't study about fracture or I didn't learn about anatomy of lower limb so I can't treat you. You get variety of patient in your daily practice once you become a doctor.

Let me know if you need more info.

kind regards

Angel
