The latest U.N. report shows that 65 million people have been infected with HIV since it was first identified 25 years ago. Twenty five million people have died of AIDS.

Researchers from the U.S. and United Kingdom might have mapped the genetic code of the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, which causes millions of sexually transmitted infections annually and increases women's risk of contracting HIV, according to a study published in the Jan. 12 issue of the journal Science, BBC News reports (BBC News, 1/12).
