I think you should really screen the Q & As in MCQ section. The answer given to Keshari Dal was Hepatotoxicity which is completely wrong. Lathryrus sativa has been known for decades to cause neurotoxicity (neurolathyrism) leading to a syndrome characterized by muscular rigidity, weakness, and paralysis of the leg muscles. The primary toxin, 3-N-oxalyl-L-2,3-diaminopropionic acid or ß-ODAP was discovered in 1964. It hyper-excites the neurons causing spastic movements of the legs and leads to paralysis--neurolathyrism.
Rarely, one can have angiolathyrism with aortic aneurysm and osteolathyrism impairing skeletal growth and development.
Hence, could someone kindly and sincerely monitor this section? Otherwise whole purpose of setting up MCQ section will be defeated. Anil Tuladhar MRCP(UK), FRCPCH

I also do agree that the answer is wrong and should be neurotoxicity not hepatotoxicity.
We should not be disseminating wrong information. | | The Following User Says Thank You to rameshkhoju For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 277 Thanks: 0

Sorry. I didn't wish to create confusion here but I strongly believe we should be disseminating correct information and the way to that will be providing references to the answers. Anil Tuladhar MRCP(UK), FRCPCH

Dear All,
I sincerely express my words of gratitude for pointing out this blunder.
I talked to the person who was responsible for the posting this MCQ on May 13th, 2006. He also admit that there was a posting error eventhough the database is still correct.
Let me take this opportunity as how we work for the MCQ.
MCQ is prepared beforehand and finalize the content and aprove by the xenoMED team responsible for the MCQ section. There are currently four member working hard for this job.
As correct answer is "Neurotoxicity" is still in the database as question and answer are saved in the database and we use them according to the date assigned.
I apologie on behalf my team member and assured you that this kind of mistake will not be repeated in the future.
I will also make sure that the content and information posted in the xenoMED meet the standard of the present world.
I request all the moderators to work vigilantly to make sure that the contents and information are upto date in the xenoMED.
We love to have your suggestions, comments and feedback regularly.
