I always wanted to be a professional Sportsman, but as a hobby player, means side by side,it was a day dream: A sportsman-doctor. I played Badminton for 11 years with many successful National tournaments, never came back with bare hands. As the time came when I could prepare for International tournament, had to choose either Medicine or Badminton. I actually always loved to play than study. But I knew as a profi Sportsman in Nepal you do not have more than few years to show what you are. So this was also an Alternative if I had chosen to play further, may be I would have joined Bundes Liga .
After I joined +2, I was still sure to study medicine but the chance was unclear. But In my mind I had chose Biology as alternative field in order to specialize in cell biology and to be a researcher. Even after I started with medicine, I was sold on cell biology in 2nd semester so much that I said to myself, it would have been not bad at all, if I hadn't got chance to study medicine. But I have to do a research anyway to get the Dr., so I ll fulfill this Interest at least partly.

We in Nepal actually enter medicine so early that we hardly have a real aim in life, same was for me.That way the american system of Premed is better i guess.
Mati's post is interesting because very less people are fond of pure science these days and he seems to be one of them. Also that very less doctors are going to villages(i am one of the culprits) and he is one of them.Great going mati, keep on inspiring us. | | Senior Member | | Posts: 108 Thanks: 0

I believe that we could be more successful in any other field. May be Economics or Management. It doesn't means that I am not satisfied now..Just imagination.. I mean, FIELD OF STUDY has nothing to do when you are not capable in full. And if you are capable, in every field you can do great.. Quote: |

I don't think that Chemistry remains only pure science when you go to higher study specially in the research level. One of my friend who completed his Masters in Chemistry from Tribhuvan University continued his further study in the field and now working for Atlanta based Center for Disease Control and Prevention, widely popular as CDC. But his father declared that there was no money in mathematics and so he sent Daniel back to Basel University to study medicine. This Daniel did spend some time studying medicine at Heidelberg too(Where you are now Mr. MH) in 1718. He was very interested in mathematics ofcourse so he fulfilled his desire..he applied his knowledge of mathematics in medicine - Daniel wrote his dissertation on "mechanics of breathing" to be awarded with Doctor of Medicine which later extended to the universally popular "Bernoulli's Theorem". Every mathematicians are using this relation derived my Medical Doctor. You can take lesson from Bernoulli and you can be the very good researcher of Sports Medicine. One thing is common between Bernoulli and U, that is you are studying your medicine in Heidelberg ..what about adding up more..he he..

Nothing is PURE these days, couldnt be truer,"someguy reportedly had to forcefully survive because his poison was impure",but jokes apart i think when you go higher in your field of study ur study gets purer, horizon gets smaller and probably the friend in CDC is not treating patients there,he must be in the field of chemistry,by the way medicine needs a lot of chemistry.
About sports medicine,i never knew it was quite a rage till i came here.It could be quite a bit for someone with a real love of sports and its quite big on the monetary side too.I am myself pondering about leaving medicine residency after one year, joining physical therapy and specializing on sports medicine.I think that would be great but seeing the state of sports in our nation i might go bankrupt after i land in my beloved motherland. | | Senior Member | | Posts: 108 Thanks: 0

Thats all what I wanted to say. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
