Life of a medical student
It really sucks if he don't get scholarship. Hard time for him as well as family. Waste of time and money. For what? Just to help the sick people. But there are some mentally sick person who doesn't see their struggle and take away all their creditability terming as foreign student. Well may be they can't afford to study abroad and as an anger labelled these are national graduates and those are foreign graduate.
Tell you guys about some of my stuff as a medical student. Its amazing. Far from country and a hope to get a best degree that our government couldnot provide to me. May be my destiny is to study abroad so I got the chance.
Here is also same as home, say second home. The main problem is homesickness, that is somewhat controlled due to easy availability of communication. Telephone, internet, letters are some mediums that becomes major part of life. Old friends become less and less, new friends emerge very quickly and set off in the due course. Besides many new friends will be foreigners.
Adapting to customs and tradition of the foreign land is the first struggle than studying the basic course of medicine. once you adapt you get along with richness of knowledge, just you need to extract them which is never ending.
Another is food. Different cusienes become part of life. Cooking becomes hobby. Eating outside with friends becomes general.
Study is damn hard. Have to learn two language. Well now it is not a big deal, but I still remember those days when locals used to laugh at me speaking their language.
Teachers are the best. The professors are trained abroad and selected to teach foreigners. Just you have to follow their leads and they will take you to glory pouring every detail that they learned as a student. They even share their gains and mistakes.
The big misleading point for some foreign students who blacklisted all other students' name is that there are nobody to look after and give thoughtful suggestions like in home. Due to this some weak student gets ruined.
Anyway life is full with struggle here, and is independent.

Days in the college are really interesting as well as boring. Boring in the sense that here you will be left alone if you can't adapt teaching method. Teaching is based on PBL and EBM. So student must actively involve in their classes, which is quite different from CBM. There is no survey of the locals like CBM but active involvement with patients. The student is preliminary doctor himself to diagnose and make management plan and teachers are the judges whether the plan is correct or need to be modified. At last a lecture from judges for the most appropriate treatment and follow up.

Well all of the student has their own style of learning. Part of it depends on teachers. PBL is a problem based learning and has its own advantage. It needs not only guidance from teachers but also the interior vision of the student to correctly diagnose the patient with typical as well as atypical signs and symptoms and finally provide appropriate management. As every individual has different signs and symptoms, PBL let the student to grasp the major ones quickly and correctly so that there won't be delay in diagnosis and treatment.
Although it has some drawbacks like other approach of studying medicine I am satisfied with PBL. A latest approach EBM (Evidence based medicine) is extra guidance which synergistically increase the knowledge of a student.
Anyway CBM is also good approach.
