KMC calls for admissions for new batch - 03-08-2007, 05:05 AM

KMC have started distributing admission forms for the new batch 2007. Many students have been seen collecting their admission forms. They have to go through a tough interview before they could enter KMC. Since the applicants have been increasing very rapidly every year, its very obvious to all that its not an easy task anymore to get admitted to KMC.

Best of all to all the applicants!

Well, 21 lakhs is really too much. But k garne? this field is really going into business line and moreover, no matter how much the fees increase but the rush of students is instead incresing every year. I guess Nepalese are getting a lot richer day by day. Well, hope this field does not lose its reputation in the process of getting into business line.

For the bright and deserving students, there is already scholarship offer from the govt.

Now, the college has to run, offer good service and have good stuffs for teaching; and the rising inflation. What can the poor college do. And, who says medical schools are not business?

KMC and other med schools should also reserve some seats as highly subsidised seats for those who are deserving but won't accept the conditions set by the MOE.

Re: KMC calls for admissions for new batch - 10-08-2007, 03:40 AM

Everything has got into business these days and education is no different!! And since educational institutes are mostly private now a days, how can we expect it to remain free of the influence of business?

Now whether business is good or bad? There is no doubt: its good. To stand among the others in business, one definitely has to have quality services and definitely its in the favor of the consumers. But the question, is how much business is good, to what extent professionalism is good? The margin definitely has to be drawn and this is where we have very badly lagged behind. Talking of fees here at KMC, i see its rising every year, its almost has become a trend to raise the fees annually. it was about 17 lakhs at our time, now its reached 21, 4 lakhs in 4 short short years - definitely a big leap, isn't it? No doubt. Now one might have a view that every thing is getting expensive these days and money is getting cheaper and cheaper!! But a lakh per year is much more than the normal inflation. thats how i feel.

The other thing is KMC is no more the KMC it used to be few years back, its now fully established. It no more has to worry whether it will receive adequate applications or not! That time has gone when KMC had to personally contact students and persuade them to join KMC. Now time has changed and KMC can now chose from a large number of students. So, then, its natural for KMC to raise its price. But i think it should better raise its criteria for selection of good students and not the price tag. Its like selecting for the wealthier ones. This is where KMC has failed and if this goes on, i doubt KMC can maintain its spurts of progress that it has achieved in past years.

The other factor behind the unreasonable hike in price may be the increase in the number of students who are dying to study medicine... and the families who are dying to get their children into medical schools.... I dont understand why people still consider medicine as a status defining career in the society...

Anyway, what effect will the price hike have?
KMC will have more income. The staffs will definitely share a large amount of bonus. Besides these i can say one more thing for sure that is sons and daughters of wealthier families will get into KMC. So what kind of students will KMC have, now that it has set a price barrier and filtered out the middle class families. MBBS at KMC would definitely be in reach of more families if the price had been 15-16 instead of 21-22 or more. So, in a way, the source of students has narrowed and so KMC will have to chose from a small number of students and they might be good and might not be good. but one thing is for sure, large number of good students will be filtered out!!!!!!
I just hope god help KMC!!!! Things dont take much time to change!!!! KMC should not forget this.
Its only that i love my KMC, thats why i am telling such nice things, other wise who will bother to think of anyone else in todays world!!!
Anyway all the best KMC!!!

Studying MBBS has become like a fashion and every Mom & Dad wants their sons & daughter to study MBBS, for this they are ready to pay any amount. For most of them 21 lakhs is not a big deal.

Hope the selection is not influenced by any sources of ministers, doctors, businessman or any high rank officer. The selection should be totally based on the individual performance but not whether his/ her dad is minister, doctor, etc as what really happens in most of the medical colleges.

Lets hope only the truely deserving candidates are selected.....

i agree with DoctorX...with the raise in the fee structure, the college should also raise the quality of education and the facilities being provided....i think the college is just doing business...

ya of course the price has increased. but we should also remember the inflation prevailing out. the same land which the parents used to sell for their son's study will earn more money than 4 yrs back . may be double what they earn 4 yrs back.
