Lost Tradition in the Torn Out Pages
Whenever a work is done in the field of publication it is invariably assessed by the readers. Obviously for the latest issue of KMC magazine most of the reader would be in the KMC beside this few copies might be available in the other medical colleges and offices elsewhere. But the majority of the reader would be associated with KMC. And I am sure most of the senior batch would not scan the pages with the interest the way that would have been if the editorial team had maintained the legacy.
Reader would dislike the most about this issue:
- Legacy of “Sanjiwani” has been torn out.
- Missing profile for outgoing batch.
Foremost things they changed the traditional name “Sanjiwani” which is already known to most the medical colleges as KMC Student’s College magazine and the next missing profiles for the outgoing batch. Why this editorial team thought that published their profile has not been justified in their editorial. As it is written in the Editorial – “Everything varies from its predeccessing magazines” is true, it doesn’t’ have the touch of KMCian through as it used to be in the “Sanjiwani”.
The word tradition means "to hand down" or "to hand over." Tradition is a beliefs or customs taught by one generation to the next, it is a set of customs or practices and also a broad religious movement. However, on a more basic theoretical level, tradition(s) can be seen as information or composed of information. For that which is brought into the present from the past, in a particular societal context, is information. This is even more fundamental than particular acts or practices even if repeated over a long sequence of time.

A tradition is a practice, custom, or story that is memorized and passed down from generation to generation, originally without the need for a writing system. The legacy of old generation to the new is passed on over the days. That’s how a legacy is maintained.
Why do we follow the tradition, it’s because we have a culture of caring people around us. The legacy of caring has been changed in the KMC through this new magazine, what if our country name change from Nepal to something else, what if every year we change the name of KMC to something else. Few things are not meant to be dynamic and same with the “Sanjiwani”.
It is customary in the most of the college’s souvenir that the profile of the magazine contains the outgoing batch. VI & VII batch are the outgoing batches, and surprisingly we don’t see them. It wouldn’t have hurt much more than modifying “Sanjiwani”.
In the chaos of superiority, this new magazine has lost the touch of the KMCian and the interest especially to the senior batches. Every work has strength and weakness judged by the third person, if we keep on doing things without considering confounding factors it does pay in the long term. May KMC junior do not repeat this mistake in forthcoming issues.
In the midst of darkness a great light is being born. It is not a light that is visible to the outer eyes but it is one that can be felt within the heart as the light of hope and of new beginnings has been started by IX batch. This light promises to replace the despair and heartache that are so prevalent in this issue and it also promises to replace the misuse of power and abuse of autonomisity too.
In order to create a more well-rounded reputation of KMC Student’s magazine with the best interest of all KMCian in mind, IX batch has created an Editorial Board along with the aim of rejuvenate the Legacy of KMC Student’s magazine “Sanjiwani”.
This may be perceived as wishful thinking by those whose hearts are heavy with the disparity brought about by this magazine. It may be perceived with skepticism by those influenced by the clear and present anger and hatred that beats in so many hearts toward others who hold different values. Nevertheless, the time is coming when the hatred and anger will be replaced by something different. It is this time that every heart is awaiting and it is this time whose light must be held to in the midst of darkness.
We wish IX batch all the success in their endeavor to bring back the spirit of KMC.
