Oh YES, Definitely doesn't seem quite nice but such things happen time and again. The feelings from those who are passed out and feel proud of their institute that groom them are pretty understandable. We have to learn from the past anyway.
As far I have seen, experienced and think about the matter I have few things to say here though I felt a bit reluctant. Being a medical student - in later part and seeing something happening about publication by contemporaries from other institutes, it is worthwhile to share some of the experiences and views.
The temptation of putting our own name, photos, doing publication and taking credit is not that unusual ( we term it as old as human civilization). Everybody has it to some extent and manifest in some or other way. But the legacy, theme of the activities depend on - on how much to twist and how to twist. We have a number of publications in IOM in different names like Kasturi, Medicamomentosa, (Poetry), Panacea and so on that too there are publications from each stream like MBBS, BMLT, Pharmacy, Optometry and so on.
Our graduation issue is Medicamomentosa which contains profiles of outgoing batch. I think "Sanjivani" of KMC is same kind of Publication - as far as I understand. It is published mainly by the interns (CR of outgoing batch i.e. interns) but the editorial board contains from many batches. It may contain and include from all batches to work and help seniors. Everybody is welcome to write for the publications but profiles and photos will be from outgoing batches.
Today Dr Anip Joshi (my batch mate and our CR from interns) has rushed to Press for the Graduation issue taking my picture for the profile. I mean guys are committed and want to include everybody. They have done months of hard work to collect polls, pictures, profiles, memoirs, articles and THE GREATEST thing - the BUDGET. Since the advertisers will not give money unless we publish their advertisement, they are paying from their own pockets in advance.
In the past it has been published as JNMSS (Journal of Nepal Medical Students' Society). Then some of the enthusiastic and creative guys published with the name of "Medicamomentosa"!!! They changed the name but everything -sense, essence, theme....all were as it should be. While releasing, they had said " Well friends journal and that too from medicine and some of the memorable moments/memoirs/missings from the outgoing batch means something scientific and related to medicine right? So we came up with some other name that can give totality of the scenario. The name is "Medicamomentosa"!!!" and that was accepted. Later years people again published with the same old name "JNMSS" but with the essence maintaining. One of the previous batches couldn't publish. It is understood it needs a lot of effort and tremendous dedication and nowadays "guys and girls are really busy" so it went like that for their own plan, future and so on.
Our batch rushed to press today. I don't know what the name they have designated but I'm pretty sure that it is same GRADUATION issue. Some of our friends are saying " for our medicamomentosa, some others saying graduation issue....what not". It is all understood that the core theme is same and nobody has big fuss about that.
I mean to say nobody really cares, bothers or gets hurt as far as the core theme is dismantled, twisted or kidnapped. There are a number of other publications in my institute. There are many wall journals as well with different and rhetoric names. I mean if you have that sort of idea, desire, zeal, interest, energy to work - the option is all open. But there are certain things that are semi-official and are related to the institute, prestige, integrity, community, identity and "we feeling" sort of coherence. They should be preserved and taken care of. There has been huge investment of energy, idea, challenge, team work to give birth to such things. It is up to the upcoming batches to carry on the legacy and maintain that culture as well as philosophy. I already said there is limitation on how much to twist, where to twist, what to twist - so not all, not the way one wants and not to the extent everybody wants. And if somebody wants there is option to carry on with different way. I think the students who are committed for the revival of "Sanjivani" do deserve much Thanks, kudos and congratulations. I'm sure you guys will be successful to revive it. There is way when there is desire. Keep up the good
work. In the similar way, the another group who published other way round ( as I read here) - I'm pretty sure that the whole of the team didn't have that motive. All the people in editorial mightn't have that way of going - I'm very much sure. And whatever has been done might have been just an enthusiasm - young enthusiasm and momentary thought. We all know that every community has black sheep. So those who are in the holy work of Sanjivani, MUST forget everything about that. Don't try to dig up, remember or remind anything from there. Just concentrate on your work with your own mission, vision and goal. Do take good ideas from all and listen to everybody. The rest is on your own!!!
I share my view here as a neighbour to your next door preferably knowing all these stuff as a part of our life.
Hopefully you guys will take it positively. I'm looking forward to exchanging my graduation with your Sanjivani.
Best wishes,
mati Matiram Pun

So, I suggest, with next issue, the editorial team should have representatives from all the batches so that the view and spirit of whole college would be represented in the magazine and not only of a single batch. | Suvash dai, we, SANJIWANI vol.5, have been thinking about this. We would be very glad to get editors from all the batch. Previously as all the batch had examination we couldnot make any moves for that but this time we are thinking and we shall come forth as new development happen.
Due to some Practical problems no development has been done in case of SANJIWANI vol. 5 but now we are feeling the urgency so we shall be reacting fast and we need the support from all the respected seniors and great help from juniors. We, IXth Batch, assure you that Vth edition of SANJIWANI will be in your hand in a couple of month.
THANKING YOU for your huge support. | | The Following User Says Thank You to risj_shr For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 883 Thanks: 14

Very hot discussion is going on in this winter season but I was really unaware of it. Anyways, even I was there in the editing team & I am ready to accept that we have done some mistakes. To publish the magazine was really a great challenge for us as it was a hifficult task to get permission from the principal to publish the magazine after an interval of 3 years but we tried our best without any financial support from KMC. Even many of us wanted to continue the Sanjiwani but there were divided opinion regarding it. Majority of them wanted some changes & we thought to inform the entire 8th batch regarding it. If majority of them were unsatisfied then we could have continued the Sanjiwani but none opposed the Sprashiya, may be they also wanted some change or no guts to speak in front (just busy in backbiting) or a diplomat. I just want to make clear that if there is something wrong in the name of magazine or about profile then, please anyone can’t simply blame the editing team as whole 8th batch were asked about there opinion. During the process of publishing the magazine, I really had a tough time because it was really difficult to argue with our own friends & there were many such incidences where I couldn’t take the tension off as I though I simply can’t afford to loose my friends for any magazine. But such incidence made me stronger & after that I participated in many such work like organizing student’s day, poor patient fund, Rotaract club & many more such work, even there we have to face a lot of criticism. So, I have just learnt one thing that, if we are doing any work, we should be ready to accept the criticism & if we don’t do any work then definitely no need to face any criticism. But that doesn’t mean that sitting ideal is the best. Same thing with the magazine too, if we couldn’t have published the magazine then everything was fine but as we did some, so definitely we have to face the criticism. Every work has got some positive & negative aspect as nobody can be so perfect not to commit any mistakes. I admit that we have done some mistakes but a good critic should always point out both the positive & negative things. Only negative minded people only looks at the darker aspect, so plez look at both the aspect. We never wanted to hurt anyone’s feeling & if we have hurt anyone then we are really sorry for that. Our juniors are doing a great work & best of luck for their future too. | | New Member | | Posts: 20 Thanks: 1

Changes are good i agree so you changed the name of the magazine...fine
you gave yourself the credit of doing such a difficult job of publishing a magazine by putting your profile on it...its ok you should get some reward..
but the most disgusting thing you did was polling the best smile, hair..blah blah from your own batch...do you think that other students of KMC are incompetant of even being nominated in these polls of yours or you dont consider others a part of KMC???if it is a college magazine then why is there only 8th batch????
you put everything '8th batch' in your magazine and you still have the guts to call it a college magazine???thats really disgusting.....
i hope the students of 9th batch learn from the mistakes their seniors made and dont repeat them!! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
