For reader: Get full access to all articles
For researchers: Submit articles for peer review and publication

GMS German Medical Science, an interdisciplinary e-journal for the entire field of medicine, addresses all those who work on and with scientific publications. Original papers and review articles that have passed through a peer review are published therein.

The Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) and their scientific associations supply the Editorial Board, the Scientific Committee as well as the experts for the peer review procedure. The editorial work and the workflow is in the hands of the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED).

All the articles published in GMS German Medical Science are available online for anyone interested: immediately, permanently and free of charge.

GMS German Medical Science is the e-journal of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF). Developed in cooperation with the German Institute of Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI) and the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED), it offers open access to medical articles that are high-ranking and quality reviewed. gms offers all scientists from the field of medicine the possibility to publish their research results online. The project is sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Beyond the rapidity of publication and access, gms will fully use the possibilities of electronic media. Possibilities will be created to upgrade the articles by linking them to high-resolution pictures, extensive charts, sounds, films, complete research databases or other data. The integration of national and international reference databases (e.g. MEDLINE) and the access to master files of publications allow for any extension of the information scope. In addition, the internet media enables the development of document-oriented alternatives to "impact-factor". The archival storage on DIMDI's highly secure servers guarantees for permanent access and citeability.

This purely electronically published journal is oriented towards all professional doers from all fields of medical science, research and supply. Their concern is to distribute high-quality research results of the medical science worldwide. All the articles published in GMS German Medical Science are available throughout the world online for anyone interested immediately, permanently and free of charge (open access). GMS German Medical Science guarantees a quality assurance process that is efficient and effective because of extensive and stringent peer reviews: Under the responsibility of the 151 expert associations with their 150,000 members, incorporated in the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies, all research publications and a greater part of the materials published additionally, like proceedings or posters, are subject to an extensive and quick peer review process. By using the web-based Manuscript Operating System (MOPS) the average period of time between the submission, acceptance and publication of a manuscript is 6 to 10 weeks. GMS German Medical Science does not require the author to transfer the copyright. The author, as originator of the scientific accomplishment, still disposes over all the rights on his work. He may publish them on the homepage of the institute, make as many copies as he wants, forward his manuscript to colleagues - as he wishes.
