How to critically appraise an article? - 08-06-2006, 09:04 AM

Following article in Portable Document Format (pdf) will guide our members to appraise an article for their learning, which is purpose of this journal club forum too.

Of course, abstracts themselves are not sufficient enough to provide information on the whole study, however it is equally not possible to post the whole article in this forum too for obvious reasons. Abstract itself tells, in lot of occasions, how reliable the study is.

It is always necessay to look at the article itself rather than in which journal the article was published; prime example of this is MMR vs Autism which was published in Lancet in 1998 which caused huge controversy and misconception throughout the world .

hi
this is a good initiative in really thinking about the articles though it has been published in journals with a high impact factor.

if anyone is interested in critical review of the articles then we have a forum here in the net and also a open journal club for all those interested at the PATAN HOSPITAL on alternate tuesdays.

here we critically analyse the article rather than increase the knowledge shed upon by the article in all the aspects possible.
