need help from philippines - 07-03-2007, 03:41 AM

hi guys, great site and glad that i found it. I am a med student here in philippines and am kneen to start my internship next month, and nothing would make me happy than the oppertunity to do it in my home country. i heard that its possible to process the internship but they require a 4 and half year curriculum to be followed... i kinda got stuck here coz mine here we follow the four year curriculum only but to enter that you have to do a 4 year pre med course which i did.. if anybody has idea about the system in united states then he will know this thing and i heard that its somewhat similiar in russia..
it would be a great help if someone here has some experience with this situation will enlighten me about how i can make it work.. thanks

Hello anildhungana,

there are certain rules by Nepal Medical Council which need to fulfil before starting your internship.

Give me your medical college name and mbbs course duration I will get the info and let you know.

Evenif you do you internship if it is not recognize by NMC you will have to repeat it in Nepal.

Re: need help from philippines - 07-03-2007, 07:30 PM

Many have already done internship in Nepal after graduating from Philippines.

Are you the only one studying in your college?

If you are alone and has 4 years course then NMC will have to discuss in your issue, you will have to subit your curriculum if previously not recognized by NMC.

If NMC has already recognized you then you can do internship in Nepal after getting teporary registration from NMC.

Re: need help from philippines - 09-03-2007, 06:56 PM

i am currently studying at southwestern university in cebu with the degree doctor of medicine, not mbbs, although its the same equivalent and i am not the first graduate from here and i recall that in the past there were students able to do internship there, but that was before the nmc changed the rules.. as for the recognition from nmc i think it is being recognized by nmc... the only problem is how will i merge the 4 year pre med and 4 year proper medicne curriculum into a 5 year mbbs course... coz from what i heard is nmc requires a 4and half year, i have more than that but only if i combine my proper and pre med ?? anybody here undergone somewhat same curriculum like mine?

Dear Anil

Don't worry you will get the full support from xenoMED. I will talk to the NMC and let you know regarding your internship. The other day I talked to them and they said that many have done internship but as you said its before the NMC brought new rule. However if you don't have 4.5 years course then a committee will sit and decide on it after you send them application.

But for the time being, please send me your details like Full Address of your college, duration of course, subjects you study and if possible the syllabus and I will talk to them and see if there is any alternative.

Take Care

Angel

Dear anildhungana,

Sorry I was busy and couldn’t update you in time, I talked to NMC today.

Irrespective of your premed education (e.g. ISc, +2 Sc or O level) if you go to Philippines and you have done two years of BSc and then 4 years of MBBS your degree is recognized in Nepal. But mind it internship is not recognized, you will have to do it in Nepal.

If you have not done two years of BSc then you will have to contact NMC a committee will sit and review your status and then they will decide how best you can be accommodated.

Have you got your two years of BSc? I think you have done it as you were talking about premed... if you have done it you can apply to NMC and you will get temprorary reg. no. through which you can do internship in Nepal.

After completing your course come to Nepal for internship don’t stay there because internship done in Philippines is not recognized by NMC. Until and unless your internship is not recognized by NMC you can get the NMC Reg. No. if you don’t have this Reg. no. you can’t practice in Nepal.

If you need further info please don’t hesitate to ask.

Doc evil is also a graduate from Philipines CLICK HERE

Enjoy your stay.

Re: hi.. - 15-03-2007, 01:11 AM

hi...i graduated from De La Salle university Medical center in Philippines...althought i havenot heard of your university...i know about the Cebu Institute of Medicine...and the 4 year premed course and 4 year med proper system since i myself went throught that. i did a few months of internship in manila and came to nepal. Currently dr. angel is helping me out sort out some issues with NMC...i wil be glad to update you of the outcome...
if you plan to practice in Nepal...i don't think it should be a problem as long as the medical program is credible and you can perform your duties. there have already been quite a # of Philippine grads who have done internship in nepal even if they didn't like doing an internship after going through an intensive clerkship....not fair but thats how it is...and gone on to get their NMC registration then practice as house officers or teach or further take the USMLE and head for US. it may take a bit of time in NMC (some headaches) because the system we go through is different from what we have in place in Nepal...but i think it will work...
...do bring in your diploma and transcript along with you as i know it takes some time to receive the diploma...unless you have somebody who can send it to you. lets see if my partial internship there would get recognized.
as i read earlier...keep in touch with xenomed ...they can help a lot. if you havenot finished your clerkship...good luck and keep up your efforts...i know its very tiring but you will be the one to gain! after that give yourself a few weeks of break...i havenot done my internship here but i have heard from past phil grads...if you have finished your clerkship there...NO BIG THING...come home...!!!! Congratulations!
