Government Service Mandatory if Internship done in Govt. Hospitals in Nepal - MOHP - 30-12-2007, 08:27 AM

Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population has issued a letter to the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) instructing to make One Year Government Service Mandatory if Medical Graduates do his/her internship in Government Hospital like Bir, Maternity, Kanti, Zonal Hospital etc.

On the other hand Nepal Medical Council doesn't recognize the internship done in Russia and China in that case graduate from this countries will have to do their internship in Government Hospitals. And in that case either Ministry of Health and Population doesn’t know this fact or trying to be ignorant in this regard.

Therefore NMC has to find out the solution, simply getting an instruction letter from MOHP doesn't mean NMC has to follow their instruction blindly ignoring the fact.

Either NMC has to exclude graduate from China and Russia for this rule or they have to develop a mechanism by which internship done in China and Russia be recognized.

Moreover they charge Graduate from this country for their internship and where in world this kind of things exist. Before coming out with this kind of rules and regulation they have to do a real homework so that it meets the needs of all.

The entire medical graduate want to serve the nation but government has to make the necessary arrangement in their part from infrastructure to the future opportunities but not taking undue advantages like this.

But this rule can be imposed to those graduate whose internship has been recognized by NMC and still wants to do their internship in Government Hospitals.

This issue must not be oversighted by Nepal Medical Association and entire medical community should look into this matter seriously especially for graduate from China and Russia.

I value your spirit thats why I talked about the infrastructure and future opportunities for those who serve the nation.

But its not fair for compulsory one year service if one does internship in the Government Hospitals for all. Because Chinese and Russian graduate will have to go through the compulsory internship in Nepal even if they do from their parent institute because NMC doesn't recognize internship done in this countries.

In this case Government is trying to take undue advantages from Chinese and Russian Graduate. Either NMC should come out with the solution for recognizing internship done in the China and Russia or they should exclude this two countries because they are doing internship in Nepal out of compulsory rule imposed by NMC.

Lets look at the scenario of Chinese and Russian Graduate - They can do their internship in their parent institute since NMC doesn't recognize so they have to do it here. And on the other hand government is trying to take undue advantages by asking them to serve for one year and more over these graduate pay for the internship in Government Hospital.

I am not against serving our nation but this is not the proper way. Policy maker have to re-think about this issue and come out with the better solution for doctors scarcity in remote areas of our country.

Most of the graduate wants to serve the nation but lack of infrastructure, motivation, future opportunities they abandon their thought.

they can't imposed one year compulsory service to Chinese and Russian graduate because they have no option to do internship in gov. hospitals.

compulsory internship pani garaune ani kaam pani garnai parchha bhane yoo ta

This new rule brought about by the MoH seems to be in the "middle of no where". They are just trying to prove their ignorance and inability to co-ordinate things. These chairpersons don't seem to understand the scenario.
I am confident they don't understand what's preinternship, internship and MBBS diploma in the real sense and are full of fall sense of pride by mobilising these medicos. Infact not!
Nepal Medical Council has a major role to play in here. It can't just sit back and watch this rule implemented only to a certain group. Its good that the government is atleast aware about sending doctors to the different remote parts of the country. But this is no effective way to mobilise doctors. Its simply trying to only make doctors graduating from Russia and China to be the scape goat. There should be "uniformity"
Its a serious issue hence everyone from NMC, MoH and all other related field should put their views for the betterment.

Re: Government Service Mandatory if Internship done in Govt. Hospitals in Nepal - MOH - 30-12-2007, 09:05 PM
