Due to economic crisis, the main government hospitals are in a position to cut down some of their services. A report says the government annually allocates 5.6 % of the total budget to health sector and aims to make it 7% by 2009. The major government hospitals as Bir hospital, TUTH, Kanti are struggling to pay salaries to the employees there. On one side there is less budget given to these hospitals and on the other hand there is increasing inflow of patients in these hospitals. Hope the government will resolve the situation soon.

Ajay,
that is 100% true that these hospitals are not only in crisis but also in virtually collapsed state. The cut down of the budget from the govt is obvious. The budget is for WAR in Nepal. There is economic slump in all sector. The tourism industry is almost in a deserted condition. The foreign aid is seasnal. And all that...........................
But the CRUX LIES SOMEWHERE ELSE!
The CORRUPT ADMININSTRATION OF THESE HOSPITALS IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM!
How can it be possible a hospital like TUTH, BIR and Kanti where there is 100% bed occupancy rate can be in crisis? Can you imagine about 40% of the patients needing admission are sent in other hospitals from there due to lack of hospitals!
Due to high number of samples of investigations and early need about 40% or more than that of investigations are sent outside. The irony is that the outsiders are the same hospitals's staff! Most of the equipments are out of orders and nobody bothers about their maintenance! Because there is commision from outside!
This is rampant and open truth that we have to bear in our mind.
What do you think about its solution?
Privatisation???????????????????????????????//

Yes friend,
If you see the attitude and situation your blood boils here.
You know, when you are going with small budget with smart plan-they turn down that. This is simply because there less commission in it.
I have seen here people doing corruption and taking commission on the CHARITY FUNDS! Can you imagine people can do that? The money people raised with so fair mind and attitude. The money with pennies cutting down their coffee or toffee what else their personal effort and there are people to embezzle that?
If someone offers, actually offered, direct help with medical gadgets eg X Ray machine, USG, Echo etc and asks these hospitals to creat room for that - they turn deaf ear. The reason is obvious there is no place they would be involved in the money matters. Instead that will creat their responsibility. So what except turning down.
The whole system has been corrupt and there is network of gangsters. If you call tender here in these hospitals THE NOTORIOUS HOOLIGANS YOU HAVE HEARD WILL BID THE TENDER! In fact these hospitals are their hiding place and working ground.
This is harsh reality. I am sorry to talk.
While talking to one of the Prof Dr of one these hospitals, he flatly said " I am sorry I could not do anything!" He is very strict and to the point. I personnally also had expected much but he told everything about the process and loopholes created..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Personnally none can do that because it is team effort ultimately.
He gave an example a peon in his office, who is 24 hr drunk,. He tried 3 yrs to transfer from his office and to other branches but couldn't do that. Now he is outgoing but the peon is there!
All the way..............WORSE!
