Corruption level in Nepal same as previous years - 27-09-2007, 09:22 AM

Nepal is put in 131th position out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI). The corruption survey of 2007 has pointed that corruption level in Nepal has remained as in the previous years and Nepal's CPI score is 2.5 out of a scale of 0 to 10 of decreasing corruption level.

The CPI shows that the perceived levels of corruption in rich and poor countries remain as sharp as ever. In Nepal, the CPI was released Wednesday by Transparency International Nepal (TIN), the global coalition against corruption. According to TIN, the pointer shows that corruption in Nepal has not decreased.

It is now high time for broad discussion among journalists, employers and all professionals and experts on how to decrease corruption, it said in an appeal.

The only solution is to identify the main causes of corruption and to strengthen accountability in public institutions.Calling corruption as enemy of nation and development, there is lack of good governance and clean and fearless environment for progress. It is said that corruption mainly occurred due to lack of clear-cut policy of the government for fighting corruption.
"The only way to control corruption is to have transparent rules and strong commitment towards implementing them" .

"If corruption is to be tackled, there must be prompt and stern action against those found involved in corruption."

A corruption-less society can materialise only if the government exercises good governance, anti-corruption campaign, rule of law, transparency and accountability.

Lets try at our level to decrease the corruption and make our country a corruption free Nation but this seems to be like a dream but remember one thing, sometime even the dream comes true.

Hope for the best............
