Lets Help Nepal - 02-02-2006, 01:25 AM

We always felt guilty. In every get together we talked about Nepal: the corruption in politics and bureaucracy, the pollution in Kathmandu and everything else that was going wrong in the country. We went on holiday and upon return we described our first hand experience to friends about how the situation in the country was getting worse day by day.

On pints of beer or glasses of whisky, we discussed about what was good and what was not for Nepal. But if someone asked us, what we had contributed to right the wrongs we so passionately criticized, our answer would be "nothing". It was a terrible paradox. We were showing too much concern for our country without being contributing citizens!

While we found ourselves talking too much about Nepal and doing virtually nothing, many non-Nepalis were actually making things happen in Nepal getting involved in various social works. They were donating to agencies, which financed almost all the international and national Non-Governmental Organizations in the country. In such a situation we wondered if some sort of campaign could be started to encourage Nepalis, especially those living abroad, to contribute as much as they could for Nepal.

(Taken from www.helpnepal.net , describes how/why helpnepal network was stablished. They are really doing good work guys, please visit the site if you havent already and try and contribute)

The title enforced me to jot down st here.Thanx for starting such a thread love nepal. We still feel guilty and we still talk on nepal's situation. Exactly in every get together here we, including some nepalese researchers, Judge of ktm district, NRNs, spent more than 90% of our time on talking about Nepal. I am sure this happens in every nepalese community. One thing is sure that we nepalese are very much worried about nepal and we all want to see a developmental change. Hopefully this willing is motivating all nepalese to develope themselves.

Coming to point, I agree and it's true that we have been talking more and doing nothing. I also think that nepalese living abroad can contribute much faster because of the value of foreign currency. And such endevour should come from all of nepalese.
Since more than a year I have been planning of doing something for social development in our country, particularly education for orphan and poor children. In this matter, Dr. Anandamohan Bhattarai (district judge ktm, currently researcher at Max plank Institute for Intl law in Heidelberg) has been suggesting me how it can be done effectively. I am very much convinced that it is possible even for me and me like students, who has work anyway for his own education.

I personally think one should really try to help Nepal in possible way. Financial help is not the exclusive way, there are other ways too. I would really be pleased to know, what you guys think of possible ways to help nepal.

First thing we have to do for our motherland is:Keep her very close to our heart and not lose ourselves in the glamour and glitter of the western world.
Since we ourselves are building our career there are very few things that we can do at the time being but whenever we can, whereever we can,we should help fellow nepalese.
I think the easiest/simplest way to do it right now would be to help helpnepal network.Friends who are in nepal can contact them and tell them(nepal chapter) we are ready to help if need be,afterall who doesnt need medicos.I resent the fact that there were times when i was sitting idle in ktm but did not use the time to help fellow nepalese.
Friends who are outside nepal can donate them some money. After going thru their site and their documentary and knowing the people involved i am sure they mean business. If we cannot give more there is a section called a doller a month,we can atleast participate in that.
www.helpnepal.net has all the information regarding the help nepal network.
