Re: Multiple Bomb Blasts in Kathmandu!!!! - 02-09-2007, 08:28 AM

KATHMANDU, Sept 2 - A series of bomb explosions rocked Kathmandu at around 4:15 pm Sunday.
The bombs went off almost simultaneously at busy market places at Tripureshwor, Sundhara and Balaju.

An unidentified group detonated “time bombs” concealed in bags, the police said. However, nobody has been arrested so far.

Home Ministry spokesman, Baman Prasad Neupane confirmed that two people have died and five others are critically injured.

Two people died when a bomb went off at a bus stop in front of the United World Trade Center in Tripureshwor.

One of the dead has been identified as Anita KC, a class 12 student at Vishwaniketan Higher Secondary School. Another dead woman is yet to be identified.

“The explosion ripped apart one person while around 7 to 8 persons were injured,” said Ram Pariyar, a bus driver who was an eyewitness to Tripureshwor explosion. The injured include six school children, police said.

Two passenger buses were also partially damaged in the explosion.

Two more are feared dead at an explosion in a microbus in front of a police post in Balaju.

At least 14 are injured in Balaju. Four are in a critical condition, according to eyewitnesses.

A girl was critically injured when a bomb went off at Tudikhel-Sundhara area. A few others are injured.

Of the injured 15 are admitted to the emergency ward and trauma center at the Bir Hospital and nine have been rushed to the Siddhartha Hospital in Balaju.

Those undergoing treatment at the Bir Hospital include Vishwaniketan students Sabi Shah, Rakshya Khadka (class 12), Shanik Shah and Prakash Gurung (class six), Sandhya Khadka, Sita Acharya, Gyanendra Waiba, Sukapaa Thapa, Jatan Mani, Chandra Prakash Gurung, Bhagwati Bhandari, Rudra Dhungel, Surendra Shahi, Basanta Chaudhary and Mitthu BK.

No one has taken the responsibility for the explosions so far.

Kathmandu Valley Police Chief SP Sarvendra Khanal said that they were still investigating the case.

Terai Army claims responsibility for Kathmandu blasts - 02-09-2007, 08:37 AM

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Sept 2 - A little known group called the Terai Army has claimed responsibility for the Kathmandu blasts.
One Mr Khanna, who identified himself as the leader of the group based in Rautahat district, called a television channel in Kathmandu and claimed the responsibility over the phone.

The claim is yet to be verified independently.

The group was behind a few bomb blasts in Rautahat a few months back.

In mid-May, at least 14 people were injured, one of them critically, when the group had detonated a bomb at a busy local market in Chandranigahapur in Rautahat district.

Most of the injured were shoppers buying essential commodities at the market

What a horrible day!!!

I can't understand one thing that what anyone is going to get by killing the innnocent people???

If anyone is having problem with the government or they have to do something with the dirty politics, why do they sacrifice the life of the innocent people who haven't done anything to them? Those person must be ashamed of themselves for doing such a shameful work......

I feel quite sorry for the people who have lost their life & for those who have injured. May GOD give them strength to fight with this situation & those people who are responsible for this should be sentencd to death.......

Scares us now, doesn't it?

May be people outside KTM have been living in this fright for more than a decade now not knowing what will happen that day and still they are living in. Kathmanduites get the scare only after they see it happening right outside their door.

Who is to be blamed?

Government - am sure they didnt plant to bomb there. And are we not the one who is responsible for making the government? Why blame the government now? We make the government, it does not come into existence by itself in democratic country. And if you think politicians who are in the government right now are bunch of idiots and are responsible for all this, then come forward and make the government yourself. Have U ever even thought of doing that? There is plenty of space for you. If you cannot, then why do U have the rights to blame those who are there?
Doctors are supposed to be the most intelligent people in the society and if we also just resort to be blaming each other then there is no good tomorrow.
I too feel sorry for the affected family which is not just those 3 killed and dozens injured but 27 million Nepalese.
Yes, khusboo, 'those people should be ashamed' but we should also be ashamed. At least, I feel ashamed for not being able to do anything for last one decade of mess we are living in.
Easiest way and so much persuaded is hibernate for sometime, write USMLE and get the hell out of this country. To hell with this country and people.. . . USMLE is better. Isn't that our feeling?
I am sure, there will be many reading these news from outside Nepal and saying 'k bhayeko hola Nepal lai' - thats such a big irony that I don't even to laugh on that.

By the way, docs are on protest these days. They were to be wearing 'black bands' but I see none in the pictures. Is the protest over?
