The only thing we can say is 'PITY !!!' To the foursome, the hospital management, the medical council, and everyone, including our " people's government."
The news is ridiculous, with contradictory statements everywhere.
1. The government has declared hospital as a strike-free zone.
2. The residents were on strike some days ago.
3. The interns has called a strike demanding for pay
4. After the tragic incident, the other doctors and staff, who were attacked by them, would call a strike !!!!
what is this ??? Khun ka badla khun, pathar ka badla pathar !!!!
Anyways, some few years ago, I had thought that the medical profession was the most respectful profession and I was proud to be a doctor. Now after reading these types of news every other day in the papers, my opinion is changing 180 degrees. I don't know what to say, but maybe this is part of 'NEW Nepal. Can someone update regarding this case. Whats the next move from government, NMC code of conduct??
We want to see them take actions against these hooligan docs. This type of minority group is putting a question mark over our profession.
Interns are supposed to be working their butts off. Instead we get a chance to read this sort of news and feel ashamed of ourselves.
However if these docs somehow escape their punishments there's going to be another strike against them asking for punishments.
Whoever they are they should not escape. Punish them and you will see changes gradually!! | | The Following User Says Thank You to Ne_pal For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 105 Thanks: 0

What I understood is that first, some patient relatives had an arguement with the doctors (interns ? medical officers??) then the interns/ medical officers (whatever) called for a strike and emergency shut down in which one of the demands was that they need to be paid and then the next day they came back and created a show. | | The Following User Says Thank You to hydatidcyst For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 318 Thanks: 13

Also heard that - the four docs were taken to TUTH for verification by police about alcohol consumption but docs there refused so they were taken to Police (or Army) hospital for the verification.
Is that true? | | The Following User Says Thank You to Walrus For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 275 Thanks: 0

by 'alcohol consumption verification', it reminded me of an incident while during my 'ER' internship rotation one night, a guy came in, looking very frightened as if guilty of a serious crime escorted by a woman.. to every doctors laughter that guy had come to prove his abstinence from drinking alcohol that night when his wife threatened to leave him if he did drink [again]..
very funny & c'mon what can be more disgraceful for those dignityless doctors in news today,, been taken here&there for the 'verification',, [if so], bad too bad..

Their licenses should be seized immediately! Such an act should not go unpunished! | | The Following User Says Thank You to Srijan For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 105 Thanks: 0

Graduate 06, I also had a similiar incidence. I was on night duty about a year ago when 2 men were brought by 3 policemen for "MaPaSe" certificate (that's what the police say, meaning Madak Padartha Sewan). No doubt, the 2 were drunk, but to my surprise, all the 3 policemen were also had alcoholic odour. I told the inspector, if I am to make a Ma Pa Se certificate for these 2 men, I will have to make for you 3 also. Embarassed, the 2 were taken away by the police (maybe to Birendra Police Hospital !!!) | | The Following User Says Thank You to hydatidcyst For This Useful Post: | | | Member | | Posts: 70 Thanks: 3

Interesting as we can see from all your experiences that how common is alcohol drinking in the public in Nepal.
There should be strict rules and regulations regarding alcohol consumption in the public.
We know that this can never be implemented nor followed in a country like ours, but still the educated groups like us can move a step forward and avoid drinking alcohol in the public and henceforth prevent chaos!! | | The Following User Says Thank You to Ne_pal For This Useful Post: | | | Senior Member | | Posts: 841 Thanks: 31

definitely its the educated and the respected people in the society- who the people look up as role models- are the ones who now have to step forward and behave properlly... but the tragedy is - its the same so called educated and reputed people who are leading the nation to - i wont call the wrong way- but the way which is definitely not the correct one....
the best example is "Interns spree drinking and creating chaos.." doctors with out any doubt are the ones the society looks up to and respects so much... doctors are the role models for many from their early childhood days... whatever the doctors do is taken as a very perfect thing to imitate and praise..
but who would the parents point out to when they have to motivate their children if doctors start to behave improperly and jeopardise their so sacred image...
definitely the doctors are the powerful ones and they can have immense effects on the society but they should not forget that with immense power comes the great responsibility as well.... Dr. Suvash Shrestha, Intern
