Nepal-tallest mountain n shortest man - 31-08-2006, 09:06 AM

A 14-year-old Nepali boy who is only 50 centimetres (20 inches) tall has been put forward for a Guinness world record as the world's smallest person, his family and supporters said.
"We found out that a Jordanian boy holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records and he is 25.5 inches tall. But Khagendra is 5.5 inches smaller than the Jordanian guy, so we sent an application to the Guinness Book of World Records," said Min Bahadur Rana, president of Khagendra Thapa Magar Foundation, an organization set up to collect funds for the boy.
Fourteen-year-old Khagendra Thapa Magar weighs only 4.5 kilograms and will be taken on tour round Nepal to raise money for his upkeep, his father told AFP.
"We show him in exhibitions to collect fund for his education, health and future," said Rup Bahadur Thapa, his father.
According to the website set up by his supporters, www.khagendratma.org, Thapa weighed only 600 grams at birth and his hobbies include "playing with pebbles" and "worshipping Buddha."

Undated hand-out picture released by the Khagendra Foundation(KF) shows 14-year-old Nepali boy Khagendra Thapa Magar(L) standing next to another boy at his home in the Banglung district in northwest Nepal. Khagendra, who is only 50 Cm (20 inches) tall has been put forward for a Guinness world record as the world's smallest person.[AFP]

Khagendra Thapa Magar, 14, is only 20 inches tall and weighs 10 pounds.

According to Min Bahadur Thapa, president of the Khagendra Thapa Magar Foundation, they are expecting to receive a reply from London-based Guinness World Records in the next few days. The foundation was set up to collect funds for the boy.

There was no listing on the Guinness World Records' web site on a shortest boy category, but Thapa claimed their closest competitor was 25 inches tall.

The boy and family members are currently touring south Nepal, seeking support for the foundation.

Re: Nepal-tallest mountain n shortest man - 09-09-2006, 07:45 AM

khagendra will have to wait for 4 more years as Guinness Book of World Records official says he is still in the growth phase as it is also evidenced that growth do occur beyond teenage and till early twenties.

since he is 14 years he need 4 more year that means if he doesn't show any growth or development in his height by 18 years of his age he will be listed as one of the shortest man in the world.

its so nice to hear that the shortest man in the world happens to be from nepal... but i wonder is his physiology is as ours or different? must be somehow different.... what may be the cause for his such strange status?

anyway, lets hope he gets appropriate treat, respects from everywhere, afterall he has brought our countrys name to fame.......

and really chetnarayanji, you can separate a nepali from nepal but not nepal from a nepalis heart...
