health camp, an experience - 21-04-2007, 10:58 PM

Chaimale health camp..

Chaimale, a village far off from the humdrum of the city and probably 20 min’s off west to dakshinkali, was a pleasant place to be. It was an awesome experience to attend health camp organized by xenomed and universal diagnostic center yesterday.

The camp was well organized, 5 divisions were made-- general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics , gynaecology and a dispensary. I put up at general medicine as I assisted intern shashi dai( medic). The majority of patient we attended had acid peptic disease, almost 70% of them I guess. The elderly usually had sore throat. It was interesting to find a young chap with swollen middle turbinate of left nose. There were cases of hypermetropia and myopia, which we could just diagnose and do no more except referral. Some came with complains of fever and headache.

One wonderful thing that I knew yesterday was unlike wards where we poke into every minute detail regarding history and examination of patient, check in every investigations and of course the ready made diagnosis, there we served them as an outpatient and it was real hard job(as I felt) coz we need to have 2-3 differential diagnosis on mind the moment the patient finishes her complaint. We were plagued also as a matter of fact to rely wholly upon the clinical diagnosis, and so far we’re just the beginners and we don’t have lab values to confirm or refute the diagnosis.
The whole program was successful as I personally feel. It was nicely planned and so was the attendance of villagers. Around 180 people have attended the camp.
Koiralako achar, ani tyo piro masu, ani local khukhura ko anda, and micro bhitra ko gyalin ko pani,,,, it’s was like a mission with bhoj ….

Well, the day just went by in a couple of blinks but in a way that it will never be forgotten. The effort of the team atlast showed results. Well, what I felt the best was the overwhwlming response from the villagers of Chaimale and Pharping. Thanks to all of them and especially our xenoMED team.

The Day was really wonderful. If it hadn't rained that day more patient would have come even though the response was great. Thankx to all those whose effort made it a success.
