Drivers major cause of accidents:

A survey has revealed that drivers are responsible for most road accidents and only their caution and vigilance can prevent road mishaps.
The report recommends to issue driving license only to trained drivers, two drivers be provided in all long-route vehicles, five-year experience for all drivers on long routes, and the suspension and cancellation of driving license of careless drivers.
The report also points out the need for hoarding boards at accident prone sites, recommends the establishment of a mobile court branch at Chitwan, calls for the provision of time cards on the Narayangarh-Mugling road section, highlights the need of strong lights in foggy conditions and cautions drivers about overtaking.
According to the report, 32 road accidents have taken place in Chitwan since July 16 in which 57 persons have lost their lives; 134 persons were injured in accidents in the same period.
A traffic accident investigation and checking committee had been formed headed by deputy superintendent of police of DSP, Dhiru Basnyat. nepalnews.com pb Dec 08 05

hi rajeeb,
in nepal, the common causes are:
1.the physical land structure, the roads have uncountable bends, and they are narrow as well, this increases the risks of accidents.
2. carelessness of drivers- a driver drives day and night while there sud have been exchange of drivers, so the exhausted driver is not attentive enough and this may cause accidents.

Really Rajeeb,
the accidents are increasing in our country. No doubt, one of the main causes of that is the faulty system fo Traffic another is of drivers. The third party can also be put away as Suvash has nicely pointed out.
THe highway remains one of the mayhem areas. Unfortunately we don't have single TRAUMA CENTER in our country. This is really an unfortunate. Few years ago there was issue in the parliament but that went down along with dirty politics.
Rules and regulations are there but the maintenance of the highway is also necessary.
When I was there in EYE WARD posting, I saw one you guy with his eyeball distroyed. He had fallen asleep in the taxi he was driving!
THere so many accidents that they ran to electric poles and ditches duriing the night drive.
There are so many rampant accidents.

2 die, 8 injured in separate road accident

KATHMANDU, Jan 14 - At least two people were killed and eight others injured in separate bus accident in Chitwan on Saturday.A passenger was killed and eight others injured when a passenger bus headed to Gunjannagar of western Chitwan from Devghat overturned at Sharadanagar on Friday night.
Bhim Gurung, a resident of Sharadanagar VDC-1, died on the spot, after he was hit by a bus, when the bus tried to save a cyclist, according to Chitwan Police
Similarly, a motorcyclist, Som Bahadur Bomjon was killed after a truck headed to Narayangarh from Hetauda collided with him at Ratnanagar-2, last night.
The injured are being treated at Bharatpur hospital. (hb)
