Yarsha Gumba - 15-12-2007, 09:51 AM

Yarsha Gumba

Recently I have been hearing a lots about this herbal plant Yarsha Gumba, which are found in the western Nepal ( Darshula), and the sherpa who go trekking around the region bring them to Kathmandu,
The market value for ˝ kg was 2 lakh 6 months ago, and now I hear its around 8 lakh.

A toll of Japanese entrepreneur went to the western part of Nepal and I guess brought large amount of these plants for their research.

Some people says taking these plants enhances the sexual performances and local from the western Nepal who have been taking them for long time says that they have no benefits or what so ever, however in Kathmandu these plants are sell in large amounts.

My uncle who works at the pharmaceutical company in the US (Pfizer) took a few sample to the States and handed to the researcher at his work, he didn’t mention the benefits of it, but the scientists are interested and wants more,
If any one has any information about it please share

Dear Probin,

The Yarsagumba your uncle gave to Pfizer could have been a duplicate sample from the market. Well I must say I am on it and I can provide you the original Yarsagumba. There are rumor pertaining to its aphordisiac and endurance effect a lot thats why it has high demand in the market.

Yarsagumba with its Latin name Cordyceps Sinesis literally means summer plant and winter insect in Nepal and Tibetan. Before the rainy season begins, spores of the cordyceps mushroom settle on the heads of caterpillars’ that lives underground. The fungus gets so much into the body of the caterpillars’ that it grows out through its head and drains all the energy from the insect and ultimately it dies. Yarsagumba, Yarshagumba or Yarchagumba is a rare and unique herb that grows in the meadows above 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) in the Himalayan region of Nepal.

Yes,

Economically and scientifically, it has been really a hot topic/issue for the last few years.

Ethnobotanists and Ethno/Biochemists have long been invoved for various kinds of researches regarding its uses, extractions and relations.

It has long been used and believed to work in the line of APHRODISIAC !!! Popularly have also been named as Nepali/Herbal Viagra!

The link with Pfizer and some people from Nepal makes sense.

Nice field to do research in.

Best wishes,
mati
