hi, i am a student,i have read many article using fMRI(functional MRI,MR spectroscopy,PWI,DWI) to evaluate the results of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but can we use it to evaluate HIFU(high intensity focused ultrasound)? | | Senior Member | | Posts: 254 Thanks: 5

csm,
what do you mean by evaluating HIFU by MRI can you explain it?
HIFU is for therapeutic use and rest eg. fmri, mri are for diagnostic use. they are entirely different.
HIFU, the therapeutic ultrasound is a minimally invasive or non-invasive method to deposit acoustic energy into tissue. Applications include tissue ablation (HIFU) (for tumor treatments, for example), hyperthermia treatments (low-level heating combined with radiation or chemotherapy), or the activation or enhanced delivery of drugs.
but on the other hand they are interrelatd like HIFU is done typically under computerized MRI guidance, when it is sometimes called Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound, often shortened to MRgFUS. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to identify tumors or fibroids in the body, before they are destroyed by the ultrasound. MRgFUS is currently used in the US, Israel, Europe, and Asia to treat uterine fibroids. Current clinical trials are underway, examining the possible use of the technique (HIFU) in the treatment of cancers of the brain, breast, liver, and bone.
this is what you are looking for i didn't get your question? - I'm a clear, colorless fluid, contain small quantities of glucose and protein.
- I fill the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord.
- You can get me through Lumbar Puncture.
- If I have White blood Cells or bacteria - Meningitis result.

thanks for your reply.recently i read a review article Therapeutic applications of ultrasound written by Gail ter haar.in this article ,the writter mentioned that "A further advantage in cancer treatments may lie in the stimulation of immune response for which there is anecdotal evidence." and use ultrasound can aid the dissolution of blood clots, and can destroy small tumor vessels.
and can we observe the changes of tissue treated by HIFU through fMRI ?thanks! | | Senior Member | | Posts: 254 Thanks: 5

hey csm download the attached zip files which contains the HTML version of the "Imaging of high-intensity focused ultrasound-induced lesions in softbiological tissue using thermoacoustic tomography" - I'm a clear, colorless fluid, contain small quantities of glucose and protein.
