The city of Xinxiang is located in the northern part of Henan Province. It nestles at the southern foot of Taihang Mountains and off the northern shore of the Yellow River,600 Km from Beijing, 80 Km away from Zhengzhou,the capital city of Henan province,and less than 100 Km from the Xinzheng International Airport.
Xinxiang has a total area of 8,169 sq Km,including urban area 346 sq Km and farmland 3,789 sq Km.

Xinxiang enjoys a mild continental monsoon climate with four clear-cut seasons. It is dry and windy in spring,hot and rainy in summer, clear and crisp in autumn, cold with a little snow and rain in winter. The annual average temperature is 14 degree celsius and frost-free period lasts around 205 days. The precipitation always concentrates in a certain period with an annual average precipitation of 573.4mm.

From the northwest to the southeast of the city, the terain appears mountainous, hilly and plain, mainly featuring plain,78% of the total area. The plain, thick, far-stretched and rich in subterranean water, is the interim area between the alluvial plain of the Yellow River and sloped plain of Taihang Mountains. The summit of Shiziling Hill in Huixian county having an altitude of 1732 meters is the highest point of the Southern Taihang Mountains in Xinxiang.


Xinxiang abounds in natural deposits. So far, more than 20 kinds minerals have been found and being expolited, amongst them the proved reserves of the cement stone 10 billion tons, coal 8.4 billion tons, marbel stone 2 billion cubic metre, chalky clay and refractory clay both over 200 million cubic metre.

Xinxiang, with its land crossing two watersheds,the Yellow River and the Haihe River, is rich in water resource. The Yellow River flows 170 Km through this area with a drainage area of 4558 sq Km. The soon-to-be-started middle route project of "Transforming water from the southern Cina to the northern China" program will cover 77 Km here, bringing 400 million cubic metre of water per year.
Xinxiang is rich in energy resource.The existing installed capacity of thermo-electric generation is 1.17 million KW.Together with those being constructed the total installed capacity will reach over 5 million KW.Henan Baoquan Pumped Hydroelectric Power Station invested 4.5 billion RMB by the state and the construction of other projects will make Xinxiang an important provincial or even national power base. The national "West Gas to East" project has 75.5 Km of its piping within the city's boundary, supplying gas 639 million cubic metre per year.


Xinxiang now has two county-level cities(Huixian,Weihui),six counties(Xinxiang,Huojia,Yanjin,Yuanyang,Changyuan ,Fengqiu),four districts (Hongqi,Weibin,Fengquan and Muye),plus the Hi-new-tech Development Zone and the Xigong District. The total population of the city reached 5.5 million, including urban population 0.87 million

The city of Xinxiang, boasting its long history, is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Chinese civilization with the vestige of Yangshao and Longshan cultures. Many important historical events had taken place in the broad land of Xinxiang,leaving a lot of historical and cultural helics.Muye Battle field mainly in the northeast part of the city of Xinxiang, is the first battle recorded in written words, well-known for winning many by few.In 586 A.D. of the Sui Dynasty saw the establishment of Xinxiang county.Xinxiang had served as the capital city of Pingyuan Province from August 1949 to November 1952.Nowadays, Xinxiang has become a regional central city of politics,economy, culture,transportation and communication in the northern part of Henan Province.
