Lets See Simple Characters First - 17-06-2006, 10:02 AM

Fascinating Chinese Characters

Chinese Characters >

It means 'nation'. A yu4 (jade) character is surrounded by a square. The square represents a city. There are mainly two ancient forms of the character. One is a wang2 (king) character in the square so 'a king in a city' implies nation. The other has a huo4 (or) character in it, which stands for a weapon so it implies guarding the nation using weapons. It is also a Chinese last name.
Pronunciation: guo2

Meaning: nation; country; state; national.

Related Characters:
king ........ = 国王 = guo2 wang2
jade ...........= = Yu4 -
Huo4 - or Bang1 - state ..............

some more...

霍乱 huo4 luan4 cholera
霍乱菌苗 huo4 luan4 jun1 miao2 cholera vaccine

大惑不解 da4 huo4 bu4 jie3 do not understand a certain thing

手货 er4 shou3 huo4 secondhand

重获 chong2 huo4 recovery / recover

惑星 huo4 xing1 planet
