Xiling Gorge and Gezhou Dam -
29-05-2006, 10:11 AM
My may holidays
Xiling Gorge and Gezhou Dam
My starting point of the Three Gorges trip is Yichang, Hubei Province, so we were sailing upstream. The Gezhou Dam located at Yichang is the first dam built on the Yangtze River. We need to pass through the dam, then get into the Xiling Gorge from there.
The Xiling Gorge used to be the most treacherous of the Three Gorges, but it is now very gentle with the "lake" created by the Gezhou Dam. The Three Gorges Dam, in about the middle of the Xiling Gorge, is only 19 miles away from Yichang.
Yichang (or the Gezhou Dam) is the entrance of the Three Gorges and the Three Gorges Dam is in the Xiling Gorge.
