Expenses for Medical Education - 08-02-2006, 11:40 AM

Here is the rough estimations:
  • Pre-Med Expenses [Total ~ NRs.28,000 – 40,000/-] for 1 year
  • Scholarship: Total Expenses [5.5 - 6.5 lakhs ] for 5 1/2 year
  • Non Scholarship: [Total Expenses:-23-28 lakhs] for 5 1/2 year
Medical Profession is lucrative and exciting for those family where nobody has touched this field before. I have personally seen parents having trouble to pay the fees, its not because they can't afford it because they think that one time payment for all the tuition fees in the Medical College is the end. Here is the summery of present status of expenses for Medical Education.
[break=Pre-Med Expenses]
Pre-Med Expenses [Total ~ NRs.28,000 – 40,000/-] for 1 year
Preparation materials:- NRs. ~ 5000/-
Coaching fees:- NRs. ~ 10,000/- (if you join)
Entrance fees:- Variable (It depends upon the number of entrance exams you face.)
Miscellaneous:- NRs. ~ 5,000/- (Photocopy, Model test, Transportation etc.)
Individual Expenses/Livelihood:- It depends upon the lifestyle of the person.
[break=Scholarship Expenses]
Scholarship: Total Expenses [5.5 - 6.5 lakhs ] for 5 1/2 year
Admission :- Depends upon the college
Charge/Fees :- Varialble (If you go via MOE and Embassy, it is free. But you have to pay in BPKIHS and IOM, Maharajgunj Campus. For details, see the brochures of the institutions. The fees increase by 10% automatically each year.)
Books :- It depends upon the students and choice of the books. The approximate amount varies from min. NRs. 17,000/- to NRs. 30,000/- and obviously more depends whether you borrow from library or want to have your own.
Other Educational materials :- Copies, Photocopies, Stethoscope, Hammer, Dissection set, Torch etc. It again depends upon the choice of the material. It can run from NRs. 5000/- to NRs. 15,000/-
Accommodation :- It is quite cheap in IOM (NRs.50/- per month for boys and NRs.250/- for girls). In other colleges it ranges from NRs.1500/- to NRs. 3000/-
Fooding :- It depends upon you and college. It is cheaper if it is in the mess/canteen of the college otherwise it goes higher.
Personal expenses :- Of course, it is quite variable.
Total expenses :- ~NRs. 5.5 – 6.5 Lakhs or more
[break=Non Scholarship Expenses]
Non Scholarship: [Total Expenses:-23-28 lakhs] for 5 1/2 year
Admission :- This is quite variable. It varies from >10 lakhs (China although there are advertisement of less than 10 lakh for the entire medical educaiton total cost reach up to 20 its the agent's policy to attract you - so beware medical education is not so cheap) to >20 lakhs (may be more in some colleges in Nepal ). Other same as scholarship.

Total expenses :- 23-28 lakhs or more

NB: This is our estimated cost, it may be more than this but not
less than the above mention espenses and it may increase over the years.
